Invitations speak for the family
In Cambodia, a wedding invitation is usually sent in the name of the parents, not just the couple. The wording reflects the family's respect for its guests, so it is worth getting right.
The essential details
Every invitation should clearly include:
- The parents' names on both the bride's and groom's side
- The couple's full names
- The date, often in both the solar calendar and the Khmer lunar calendar
- The schedule of ceremonies and the reception
- The venue name and address
- A contact number for questions
Polite, formal language
Khmer invitations traditionally use respectful, formal language, inviting guests to honour the family with their presence and to bless the couple. Use honorific titles such as Lok, Lok Srey, Neak and Samdech where appropriate, and check the spelling of every name carefully.
Bilingual invitations
If you have guests who do not read Khmer, such as foreign colleagues or relatives abroad, consider a bilingual invitation. Keep the Khmer text first and add a short English version below.
Keep it readable
A long block of text on a small phone screen is hard to read. Use clear sections for the ceremonies, the reception and the location, and let the design breathe.
Proofread twice
Ask one person from each family to check the names, titles and dates before you send anything. A mistake in an elder's name is the error guests notice most.
Write it once, share it everywhere
Theapka supports Khmer text beautifully, so you can write your invitation in Khmer, add English if you need it, and send it to every guest with one link.
