How to Manage Your Wedding Guest List Without Family Drama

The hardest list you will ever write
In Cambodia, a wedding guest list can easily grow to several hundred names. Parents invite colleagues, neighbours and old friends, and every family has relatives you have never met. Without a plan, the list grows faster than the budget.
1. Agree on a total number first
Before anyone writes a single name, agree with both families on a maximum number of guests. Your venue size and budget will usually decide this for you.
2. Split the list fairly
A common approach is to divide the total between the bride's family, the groom's family and the couple's own friends. Each side is then responsible for staying within its share.
3. Use simple categories
Group guests so you can make decisions quickly:
- Immediate family and elders
- Extended relatives
- Parents' friends and colleagues
- Your friends and colleagues
- Plus-ones and children
When you need to trim the list, you can review one category at a time instead of arguing name by name.
4. Keep one master list
The biggest source of confusion is having three versions of the list: one on paper, one in a phone and one in a group chat. Keep a single shared list that everyone updates.
5. Record contact details
Save a phone number or Telegram contact for every guest. You will need it to send invitations, reminders and thank-you messages.
6. Track replies as they come in
A guest list is only useful if you know who is actually coming. Mark each person as attending, not attending or no reply yet.
Let the tool do the work
Theapka gives you one guest list for the whole wedding, connected to your digital invitation and RSVPs, so both families always see the same up-to-date numbers.
