Choosing an Auspicious Wedding Date in Cambodia

More than a calendar decision

For many Khmer families, the wedding date is not chosen for convenience alone. It is chosen for luck. Parents often consult an achar, a monk or a trusted elder who looks at the couple's birth details to find a favourable day and time.

Popular wedding seasons

Traditionally, many families avoid holding weddings during the Buddhist Lent period, which falls roughly during the rainy season. As a result, the cooler, drier months from around November to April are the busiest time for weddings in Cambodia.

Families with Chinese-Khmer heritage may also check the Chinese calendar for lucky and unlucky days.

Practical checks before you commit

Once you have a shortlist of good dates, check the practical side:

  • Venue availability. Popular dates in peak season book up many months ahead.
  • Public holidays. Guests may travel to their home provinces during Khmer New Year or Pchum Ben.
  • Key relatives. Make sure grandparents and relatives abroad can attend.
  • Weather. If any ceremony is outdoors, think about rain and heat.

Morning or evening?

The auspicious time often applies to the key ceremonies in the morning. The reception is usually held in the evening, so guests who work can still attend.

Tell guests early

Once the date is fixed, let people know as soon as possible, especially relatives who need to book flights or take leave.

Share the date beautifully

With Theapka, you can send a digital invitation the moment your date is confirmed, and update it easily if any detail changes.
